The History of "For a Lifetime"

It all began when a friend of mine asked me to write a poem for her wedding. I commented to her that perhaps I could write a song instead. I had written songs before, but I had never attempted a love song. It seemed like a strange project for someone who was not even dating, but I surprised myself that evening by writing the chorus to "I Have Chosen You". My friend liked it and so I set to work on completing the song. By the time of her wedding I had also written : "I Take Your Name". I performed both of these songs in her wedding. Later another friend asked me to write a song for her to sing to her groom. She wanted it to describe her feelings. After conversing with her for a while concerning her fiance, I wrote "You Are My Dream". I then had another couple approach me, with ideas of what they wanted written into a song and asked me to write one for their wedding. The result was the title song, "For a Lifetime". This was performed at their wedding. Eventually, my father found someone who was willing to sponsor a recording. I accepted the challenge with excitement and, over the course of a year, I completed, four more songs and had two more in the making. We ended up recording in the evenings to work around our school schedules, using several sessions to accomplish the project. While we were recording the first few songs, I was rewriting the melody accompanying "I Need Your Love". The song,"Father, be the Keeper" was finished a few days before it was recorded and the vocal parts were actually put together for the first time in the studio shortly before it was recorded. The first three songs were recorded with sound track created by the keyboardist, Doran Ritchey. However, we soon decided that this method would cause the project to last longer than we had expected, so we began doing everything live in the studio. When the tape was finally completed, and I held a copy in my hand, I felt amazed that such a project had been accomplished while I was so young. I had dreamed of making a tape some day, but I figured it would happen after I was through with my college music training. That was my senior year of high school. Three summers later, I married Rev. Derek L. McIntire and in our ceremony we sang the title song "For a Lifetime" to one another. Still, today, after several years and my own wedding, I can hardly believe that I was inspired to write the songs on "For a Lifetime"! I recognize that the talents, the inspiration, and the open door to accomplish this project came from God. I have continued in my pursuit of music ministry by attending Penn View Bible Institute in Penns Creek, PA. In May 2001, I will graduate with a degree in Christian music and the following year, I will graduate with a second degree in Christian Music Education. I want to always use the abilities and talents God has given me for Him and I want to be a part of helping homes last "For a Lifetime"!
